trolleybus
history
As early as 1937, the city of Pilsen decided to introduce trolleybuses . In 1939 construction began on the first line, which finally went into operation on April 9, 1941. Since then, the network has been continuously expanded. The last section so far was opened in 2010 between Jížní Předměstí and Nová Hospoda and opens up the Borská Pole industrial park. Further expansion is planned, but had to be postponed for financial reasons.
Line network
The trolleybus network currently consists of nine lines 10 to 18. Lines 17 and 18 are only repeater lines for the Borská Pole industrial park and only run eight times a day. Line 10 reinforces line 13 on the southern branch towards Černice on weekdays. The most important lines run every five to fifteen minutes during the day, line 14 only every 30 to 60 minutes. The most popular line is line 16 and is regularly used by articulated trolleybuses.
vehicles
The vehicle fleet currently includes the types 14TrM , 21Tr, 24Tr Irisbus, 25Tr Irisbus , 26Tr Solaris and 27Tr Solaris. All cars come from the manufacturer Škoda Electric and were manufactured in Pilsen. Since Škoda itself is based in Pilsen, the trolleybus network is also often used for test drives with new vehicles.
According to a decision made in autumn 2018, all trolleybuses with auxiliary diesel units are to be replaced by vehicles with auxiliary batteries. In March 2018, the PMDP signed a contract with Škoda Electric for the purchase of 7 articulated trolleybuses with auxiliary battery drives of the type 27 Tr and an option for 10 additional vehicles. The battery drive should enable a vehicle distance of at least 12 km, the achievable maximum speed must be at least 50 km / h. The output of the heating and air conditioning may be reduced by 30% when driving on the battery. Between two battery trips, the battery must be recharged accordingly within a 45-minute trip under overhead lines.
omnibus
The urban buses handle the traffic on a total of 22 routes. They mainly connect the city center with the outer districts and the surrounding communities within the transport network.
night bus
Night traffic is ensured between around midnight and 4 a.m. by means of three night bus routes . All ten lines cross in the city center (Mrakodrap stop). The buses wait at the Hauptbahnhof ( Hlavní nádraží in Czech ) stop for connections to the other lines (in all directions).
