Požega ( Serbian - Cyrillic Пожега ) is a city in western Serbia , 24 km east of Užice . The name Užička Požega is also used to distinguish the city from other places of the same name .

Today the city has about 30,000 inhabitants. Požega is traversed by the Skrapež River and is located at an altitude of 311 m. The area of ​​the large municipality Požega is 426 km². It belongs to the Zlatibor District (Zlatiborski okrug / Златиборски округ).

At the 2011 census, the Opština Požega had 29,638 inhabitants, 13,153 of them in the city proper. 97.7% of the inhabitants of the municipality described themselves as Serbs and 0.7% as Roma . The latter live almost exclusively in the city itself.

The Budimka combine has been based in Požega since 1947 and produces alcohol (slivovitz and slivovitz refined with juniper berries), beef, pickles and fruit juices, especially apple juice. In the 1980s, the plant was extensively brought up to the state of the art. The planned privatization of Budimka was scheduled for March 21, 2008, but was postponed.

The Belgrade – Bar railway runs through the city .
