The Pocilloporidae are a family of hard corals (Scleractinia). Like most other hard corals, most Pocilloporidae live in a symbiotic relationship with small algae ( zooxanthellae ) that provide the corals with nutrients. The closely related genera Pocillopoa , Seriatopora and Stylophora live in the reefs in shallow water and form small bush-shaped colonies. Experienced aquarists like to keep them in saltwater aquariums because of their color .
The genus Madracis contains many species that live in deep water without symbiosis with zooxanthellae.
