Poetology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poetology is a term used in literary studies since the 1980s, which is mostly used synonymously with the expression poetics (s) and denotes the various doctrines of poetry .

For the purpose of differentiation, it was proposed to reserve the term “poetics” for normative poetry doctrines (so-called rule poetics), while the term “poetology” should be used for a particular poetic self-understanding or an individual style of writing. Many poets wrote poetological writings, but also made poetological statements in the form of poems. These poems are called poetological poems .
