Poias

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poias ( Greek  Ποίας ), son of Thaumakos or Phylakos , consort of Methone and father of Philoctetes , is a figure in Greek mythology .

When the Argonauts were driving home , he killed the giant Talos . The bronze guard wanted to prevent the travelers from landing on Crete . Poias shot an arrow at the plug in the giant's heel, which blocked its life-giving "blood channel".

According to the library of Apollodorus , Poias was also the one who lit the funeral pyre of Heracles after no one else wanted to do this service. The Argonaut received the demigod's bow for this. Other sources attribute the deed to his son Philoctetes and in this way let him come into possession of the bow and the arrows or distribute the events in such a way that Poias does the service, but Philoctetes receives the bow.
