Point Pedro, Sri Lanka

Point Pedro ( Tamil பருத்தித்துறை Paruthithurai , Sinhalese පේදුරු තුඩුව Peduru Thuduwa ) is a city in Jaffna District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka . According to the 2012 census, the city has 12,334 inhabitants.

The most noticeable structures are the lighthouse built in 1916 and a transmission tower for the Sri Lankan Navy .

Surname

The name Point Pedro is derived from the Portuguese Punta das Pedras (= rocky tip), which refers to the rocky coast of the peninsula.
