Polad Hashimov

Polad Israyil oglu Haschimov (born January 2, 1975 in Sumgayit , † July 14, 2020 in Aghdam, Tovuz region ) was a major general in the Azerbaijani army . He was killed during the fighting towards Tovuz in July 2020.

Life

Polad Hashimov was originally from the village of Vendam in the Gabala region . He received his secondary education in Sumgayit. Polad Haschimov graduated from the higher military school named after Heydar Aliyev. He was married and had 2 sons and 1 daughter.

Polad Haschimov was awarded the medal for military service by the order of President Heydar Aliyev as a major in 2003. Six years later, in 2009, on the orders of President Ilham Aliyev, he was awarded the "For the Motherland" medal as a lieutenant colonel.

Polad Haschimov, who was awarded the Order of Merit of the Fatherland III on June 25, 2014, was awarded the Order of Merit of the Fatherland II after the fighting in April 2016. Haschimov was the chief of staff of the 1st Army Corps who fought for the Talish settlement during the fighting along the front on April 2 and 4, 2016, was wounded during the battle.

On June 25, 2019, Polad Hashimov was awarded the highest military rank of major general. Haschimov was later appointed chief of staff of the 3rd Army Corps of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Major General was killed on July 14, 2020 in fighting in the direction of Tovuz. Polad Haschimov is the third Azerbaijani general, after Ismet Gajibow and Mahammad Asadovder, to be killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh war.

On July 14, Hashimov's body was first taken to his hometown of Vendam in the Gabala region and then to Sumgayit, where he lived. The general was buried on July 15 with Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev, who died with him. The farewell ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, Deputy Defense Minister Ramiz Tahirov, Chief of Staff Najmaddin Sadikov, Deputy Head of the Military Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Yashar Aliyev and Baku Mayor Eldar Azizov.

A few days after the general's death, a bust was made of Tabriz Soltanli, a fourth-year student at the Azerbaijani State Academy of Arts.
