Pole bold

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pole grease or acid protection grease is a grease-based corrosion protection agent for electrical contacts, especially for the connection poles of lead-acid batteries on motor vehicles .

Pole grease is intended to protect the contact point from moisture and sulfuric acid outgassing from lead batteries in order to reduce oxidation and corrosion of the contact surfaces. Even if the terminals are permanently tightened, unwanted contact resistance can arise over time without pole grease.

Pole grease consists of a mixture of highly refined hydrocarbons and corrosion inhibitors . It is conditionally acid-proof.

Since pole grease is electrically non-conductive in contrast to contact grease , it increases contact resistance when it is applied to the contact surfaces. If a particularly low contact resistance is required, the contact surfaces should first be cleaned and any grease removed before making the electrical connection. Only after the contact surfaces are firmly connected can pole grease be applied using a brush or spray can in order to reduce the penetration of moisture.
