context

The frequency of polissoirs is related to the availability of stones for the manufacture of axes and suitable blocks for polishing. In the Paris Basin and in the circulation area of the Seine-Oise-Marne culture (SOM culture) they are frequently encountered: So were many in the department Aube, Essonne, Eure-et-Loir, Loiret, Seine-et-Marne and Yonne found .

By convention, polissoirs are classified as megaliths, although they do not have any of the properties.
