The training is divided into six training focuses:

  • traffic
  • Law
  • Crime / forensics
  • Emergency training / sport
  • General knowledge
  • Political education.

Since autumn 2017, the training period has been divided into five half-years instead of the previous three training phases. Internships begin in the second half of the year, not in the third year of training as has been the case so far. There are major innovations in theoretical lessons, due to the shortening of the content in the areas of German, political education and behavioral theory.

The training of the police students is carried out on the grounds on Charlottenburger Chaussee in the Spandau district , which is also used by Police Department 2. In addition to the training facilities, there is also a swimming pool and a sports field. Currently (2017) almost 2500 police students are taught by over 230 instructors.

Controversy

The Berlin Police Academy was in the media in 2017, among other things, because of alleged infiltration by a criminal Arab extended family ( Miri-Clan ). Furthermore, "police students with a migration background should have been noticed in a class through hatred, refusal to learn and violence". In addition, the contacts of a police student with the Guerilla Nation group were discussed. The Berlin Police Academy speaks of "persistent false reports". The police union assumes there are problems at the academy that have a “real core”. The call for help from colleagues by means of anonymous tips should not be swept under the table by the authority management.
