Police Department

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The departments responsible for the police in Switzerland are called the Police Department (so often at the municipal level) or the Police Directorate (so often at the canton level). However, other branches of service such as the military , fire brigade or medical services are often assigned to them . In some cantons they are therefore also called the police and military departments or, more recently, the security department . They are managed at the cantonal level by a government or state council (= cantonal minister), at the communal level by a city or local council.

At the federal level there is also the Federal Department of Justice and Police . This is led by a Federal Council (Minister).
