Polish Language Council
The Council for the Polish Language ( Polish Rada Języka Polskiego ) is an organization that, similar to the German Language Council, serves to preserve and maintain the Polish language in this case .
The Language Council is part of the Presidium of the Polska Akademia Nauk , the Polish Academy of Sciences, as a commission . It was founded on September 9, 1996 and has 34 members.
Since May 2000 he has been working under the Language Act of October 7, 1999 ( Ustawa o języku polskim ). The Language Council is an advisory and opinion-forming body on issues relating to the use of the Polish language. Its first chairman was Walery Pisarek (currently honorary chairman), and since May 2000 the position has been filled by Andrzej Markowski . The deputy chairmen are Jerzy Bralczyk and Julian Kornhauser . Katarzyna Kłosińska acts as general secretary . Members of the council are specialists in the field of linguistics in connection with areas of knowledge such as law , medicine , computer science , physics, etc.
tasks
The tasks of the council include:
- Analysis and evaluation of the Polish language as well as the language in politics and society
- Dissemination of knowledge about the Polish language, its norms, standards and criteria of its use; holding discussions and conferences for this purpose
- Assessment and evaluation of the Polish language in culture and science as well as in publications
- Meaning of the language in terms of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, spelling and punctuation, as well as expression and style
- Finding solutions to the use of Polish in various fields of science and technology, especially in new disciplines
- Comments on proposed names for new products or services
- Care for the culture of the Polish language in schools
- Formation of rules of spelling and punctuation of the Polish language
- Occupation with non-standard and regular names for children
