Krystyna Bochenek
Krystyna Maria Bochenek (born June 30, 1953 in Katowice ; † April 10, 2010 near Smolensk , Russia ) was a Polish journalist , politician and senator .
Life
She studied philology at the Silesian University . From 1976 she worked as a radio journalist at Polskie Radio in Katowice. She has also worked closely with the press and television for years . Her husband was the cardiac surgeon Prof. med. Andrzej Bochenek . She had two grown children.
In her work as a journalist, Krystyna Bochenek dealt with linguistic, cultural and health issues and was the initiator of Ogólnopolskie Dyktando (Poland- wide dictation), Poland's largest linguistics show. She has prepared nearly 1,000 hours of health programs , the best known of which is Magazyn Medyczny (medicine magazine). She was one of the writers of the television production Od A do Zdrowia (From A to Health). Bochenek supported charitable projects such as Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy , Fundacja Rodzin Górniczych and the reconstruction of the Opera Śląska and Theater Śląski buildings.
For her journalistic and charitable work, she has received several honors and prizes, including Osobowości Radiowe (Radio Personalities), Bolesław Prus , the Prize of the Fundacja Promocji Zdrowia (Health Foundation) and Polski Komitet Zwalczania Raka (Polish Committee to Fight Cancer) and cultural awards of the Voivodeship Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship and the Mayor of the City of Katowice.
On September 12, 2004, she was elected to the Polish Senate as a senator from the constituency of Katowice (as a non-party member of the Unia Wolności list).
On April 10, 2010, Bochenek was part of a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński , who was to travel to the memorial in Russia on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Katyn massacre . In a plane crash of the delegation near the Smolensk-Nord military airfield , she was killed along with other high-ranking representatives of Poland.
Posthumously Bochenek was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order Polonia Restituta (Krzyż Komandorski z Gwiazdą Orderu Odrodzenia Polski) on April 16, 2010 .
