The Polonez Cove ( Polish Zatoka Polonez , Polonaise Bay ' ) is a bay on the south coast of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies on the north side of the Low Head and is bounded to the north by Mazurek Point .
Participants in a Polish Antarctic expedition named it after the polonaise , the Polish national dance. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred this designation in 1985 in a partial translation into English.
