The Polycentropodidae are a family in the order of the caddis flies .

Polycentropodids or net caddis flies live as larvae predatory of microorganisms ( zooplankton ) and do not build a quiver. They prey on their food with funnel-shaped or tubular fishing nets that they have spun themselves. There are also species that create community nests.

The adults are between 5 and 10 mm in size, the forewings are densely hairy, dark brown or gray and can have different patterns.

In Germany there are 5 genera of the Polycentropodidae, which can be easily distinguished from one another due to their various morphological features. About 300 species of this family are known worldwide.
