Polykles (painter)
Polykles ( ancient Greek Πολυκλῆς ) was a Greek painter from Adramyttion .
He is only known from a mention by Vitruvius . Along with Aristomenes and Nicomachus, he is named as one of the painters who would have earned great fame because of their talent, but who could not be known because of poverty, bad luck or failure in competitions.
Since the passage of the text is only corrupted after his name, it was discussed whether the following word is an ethnicon or a second name of the artist. It is believed that it is the designation of origin from Adramyttion .
