Polypectomy refers to the removal of growths on the wall of the colon , the so-called intestinal polyps . The endoscopic procedure is carried out as part of colon cancer prevention using a colonoscopy .

The stalk of the intestinal polyp is cut with a loop. Complications of polypectomy are bleeding from the intestinal wall.
