(R = CH 3 ; CH 2 Cl; C 2 H 5 etc.)

Polyvinyl among the thermoplastic plastics . Practically the most important representatives of this group of substances are polyvinyl acetate (PVAC) and polyvinyl propionate .

Manufacturing

The radical polymerization of vinyl ester 1 (e.g. vinyl acetate ; R = CH 3 ) yields polyvinyl ester 2 :

Synthesis of polyvinyl esters

use

The transparent polymers are used in the production of paints and as adhesives . The hydrolytic cleavage of the ester bonds from vinyl acetate to polyvinyl alcohol is of technical importance.
