The Pomertstein south of the Lüdersdorf district of Herrnburg is one of the late Gothic monuments in the Northwest Mecklenburg district . Possibly as a stone of atonement , the medieval stone cheek still reminds of the traveler who died here.

The stone

The stone is located south of Herrnburg in the forest on the right of the road to Schattin, the medieval pilgrimage route from Lübeck to Wilsnack . It is made of Gotland limestone and worked as a relief on the side facing the street. The picture shows a crucifixion scene. Under the cross on the left, Hinrich Pomert, who died here while traveling on August 17, 1466, portrayed as a traveler or pilgrim through the travel bag. Next to it, in the vestments of a dean, presumably his son, the Hamburg cathedral dean Pomert, who, according to the inscription, donated the plaque for his father who died here. The details of the death have not been handed down, not even through local sagas. Below the picture is the explanatory Latin text in Gothic minuscules :

“Anno domini 1466 the xvii augusti obiit hic hinric pomert dum peregre vadit. Reminiscere obiter relictorum suique suorum. Huic dicavit hoc filius decanus hamburgensis. Memores estote suarum precor, animarum. "

“In the year of the Lord 1466 on August 17th, Hinrik Pomert died here while traveling. Wanderer, remember him and his bereaved. It was set up by his son, dean in Hamburg. Be mindful, I ask, of their souls. "

The son, Heinrich Pomert, was a cleric from the Diocese of Lübeck , canon in Lübeck and at that time dean of the Hamburg cathedral ; he had previously been papal collector and secretary to Cardinal Nikolaus von Cues .
