The Pomona Plateau is an ice-covered and 300 m high plateau in the western part of Coronation Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It reaches from the Sandefjord Peaks to Deacon Hill .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out surveys between 1948 and 1950. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1955. The committee transferred a designation of the British navigator James Weddell from 1822 to the plateau described here. Unaware of the naming of Coronation Island by George Powell, Weddell named this island after the Roman goddess Pomona .
