The Altmühltrichter is a natural area (110.30) of the southern Franconian Jura in the southwest German stepland . It is part of the Weißenburger Bucht , a sub-area of ​​the northern Ries foreland , which in turn belongs to the foreland of the southern Franconian Alb in the Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Geographical description

The Altmühltrichter is a wide, damp valley low with wide, gravel and loosely terraced terraces . The young Altmühl flows through the area . The gradient is extremely small at 13 cm per km.

The Ornbau-Gunzenhausen Altmühltal (113.30) borders in the northwest ; in the northeast the southern Ansbach hill country (113.20), the Weimersheimer Platte (110.31); in the southeast the Hahnenkamm-Liasgürtel (110.20), the Hahnenkamm-Vorberge (110.21) in the Hahnenkamm-Vorland and in the southwest the Treuchtlinger Pforte (082.21).
