Ehlheim is a district of Dittenheim in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen with about 60 inhabitants.

location

The village is located in the West Central Franconia region , around 2.5 kilometers southeast of Dittenheim. The municipal boundaries to Meinheim and Alesheim and Wachenhofen are close to the village . The Altmühl flows past east of Ehlheim .

South of Ehlheim there is an open-air station from the Upper Palaeolithic and finds from settlements from the Neolithic and the Urnfield Age, as well as a burial mound field from the Bronze and Hallstatt Ages .

history

The first written mention of "Aulin" (damp or small floodplain) dates from 1346. In 1419 the place was called Ewlin, 1489 Elen, married in the 16th century and Ehlheim for the first time after the Thirty Years' War . In 1559 the Reformation was introduced. After the Thirty Years War, exiles from Austria moved to Ehlheim. In the 18th century the farms in Ehlheim belonged to the Heidenheim monastery , the Hohentrüdingen caste office , the Auhausen monastery , the Wettelsheim judges' office , the Teutonic Order , the Principality of Ansbach , the Counts of Oettingen and the Marshals of Pappenheim . In World War I there were two dead and one missing; one killed and three missing in World War II . On March 1, 1945, a train was bombed near Ehlheim. The end of the war was on April 23, 1945 with the invasion of the Americans . In 1965 Ehlheim was connected to the water supply.

Village chapel

In the Middle Ages , Ehlheim had a chapel with a tower that belonged to the parish of Dittenheim. After the Reformation and the collapse of the chapel roof in 1579, the church was profaned , first converted into a school and then as a fire station . The church bell stayed in Ehlheim until 1917. Today it is in Parsberg . The new bell that is used by the volunteer fire brigade is called "Stifter".

In 1958, the community center with a fire station , hearse garage and weighbridge and a community freezer with 8 or 10 individual chests and a cold room was rebuilt and renovated in 2000.

Former Ehlheim stop

The main street of the village is the district road WUG 28 . From this a connection branches off to Meinheim. The Ehlheim stop on the Treuchtlingen – Würzburg railway line directly to the northeast was opened in 1869 with two continuous main tracks and is now closed.
