Wachenhofen is a district of Alesheim in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The church village has around 100 inhabitants and is located in the Altmühltal at an altitude of around 442 meters above sea level.

Geography and traffic

The Altmühl flows southwest of Wachenhofen, while the 427.4 meter high Lettenbuck is to the east . Alesheim is around one and a half kilometers to the south-east. Neighboring towns are Ehlheim , Alesheim and Gundelsheim an der Altmühl . On the northeastern edge of the village, the district road WUG 26 joins the district road WUG 1, which runs past the site .

history

Near the village there are finds for settlements of the Neolithic , the Bronze Age , of prehistory and the early and late Latènezeit and three verebnete grave hill of history and a field station of the Mesolithic . Up until the municipal reform in Bavaria , Wachenhofen was an independent municipality. On April 1, 1971, it was incorporated into the community of Alesheim.

The steeple of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Hieronymus was raised in the 18th century and is crowned by a pointed helmet. The three-axis neo-Gothic nave, structured by buttresses , was built in 1870 by the architect Wilhelm Langenfass . The west facade was decorated with a door frame , a window with a lash closure and a rose window . The church is based on the St. Willibalds Church in Weißenburg in Bavaria .
