history

The coat of arms of the von Gundelsheim family

The area around Gundelsheim has been inhabited for thousands of years, as proven by several prehistoric settlements.

The noble family of Gundelsheim comes from Gundelsheim . They were part of the imperial-free Franconian knighthood in the knight cantons of Altmühl and Odenwald. In 1344 the Hohenstaufen castle of the noble family in Gundelsheim was destroyed. The last of Gundelsheim died in 1680. In 1971 Gundelsheim became the national winner in the competition Our village should become more beautiful . Until the municipal reform in Bavaria , which came into force on May 1, 1978, Gundelsheim was an independent municipality in the former district of Weißenburg in Bavaria .

A late-Gothic sacramental niche is attached to the north wall . The medieval cemetery wall is made of stones from the ruined castle. Several tombstones from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are set in the Romanesque ossuary .
  • The two-storey rectory is a gable- roof structure built at the beginning of the 19th century .
