Wachstein is a district of Theilenhofen in the Middle Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The place has 189 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Wachstein is located in the West Central Franconia region between Theilenhofen and Windsfeld , 1.6 km as the crow flies from Theilenhofen. The place is traversed by the Wachstein stream . Nearby are the Knollholz , Hintereichet and Vordereichet forests . The Weidachgraben flows to the south . Neighboring towns are Windsfeld, Theilenhofen, Dornhausen and Gundelsheim .

history

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Wachstein was incorporated into the municipality of Theilenhofen as part of the municipal reform.

Wachstein Church

The Protestant branch church St. Michael was built in 1907 after the previous church was demolished. The new nave is three-axis and has galleries and a flat plastered ceiling. The organ from 1899, the clock tower and the altar from the previous church were taken over in the new building. On the churchyard wall there is a funerary monument in the style of an obelisk from the 19th century.

The previous church was built in the 15th century by the Lords of Pappenheim . In 1415 Wachstein became an independent parish and in 1545 the Reformation prevailed. In 1733 the church got an organ, 1757–1758 the church tower was built with the letters "FFRMGZP" on the clock face of the tower clock. In 1867 the old tower clock was replaced by a new one. In 1907 the church had to be demolished because it was in disrepair. The parish currently has around 150 parishioners. Attendance at church services is 20–30%. The volume of gifts is around 100 euros per head.

Further architectural monuments

In addition to the village church, the only architectural monuments in Wachstein are the two-storey farmhouse Dorfstrasse 16 , a three-sided courtyard with a gable roof , from the mid-19th century, which was increased in 1899, and the single-storey residential building at Lindenstrasse 2 with a gable roof, which was also built in the mid- 19th century .
