history

Around Trommetsheim there are several desert areas and other traces of settlement from different eras . A road ran north of the village in Roman times .

In 750 the place was first mentioned as Trutmundesheim in a deed of donation to the Fulda monastery , which makes it one of the oldest settlements in today's Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district. Around 1040 the Eichstatt Bishop Gundekar II consecrated the village church. During the Bavarian War the place was burned down in 1420 during a battle; the three noble families of Trommetsheim died out. From the 16th century onwards , the marshals von Pappenheim and the counts of Ansbach repeatedly changed their roles as landlords of Trommetsheim.

On 13 October 1973, a US fighter plane grazed the type F-4 Phantom II in low-level flight one armored personnel carrier type M113 and crashed between Trommetsheim and Katte Hochstatt. The two pilots and two soldiers of the tank were killed.

Until the municipal reform , Trommetsheim was an independent municipality. In 1978 it was incorporated into the neighboring community of Alesheim together with its Lengenfeld district.

Attractions

The St. Emmeram Church was consecrated around 1040. Between 1689 and 1702 the church tower was built or rebuilt. The pulpit was erected in 1702, the organ in 1704 and the high altar in 1707. The tower is crowned by a pointed helmet.

Others

The Trommetsheim community library is located in the old schoolhouse . It has an inventory of around 3,000 books and 200  cassettes / CDs . Borrowing is free.

Trommetsheim is known for its stork population . In 1966, the 15 meter high chimney of the former dairy on the Raiffeisenbank site became a nesting place. The chimney will be renovated in 2011 or 2012 and will then probably give the storks a home for around ten years.

The place has an active village youth club, a men's choir , a fruit and horticultural club , a shooting club and a trombone choir.

The Weißenburg scholar Johann Alexander Döderlein spent parts of his youth in Trommetsheim in the late 17th century. In 1895, the teacher and National Socialist politician Adolf Meyer (NSDAP local group founder and councilor in Wilhermsdorf , Gauredner and district leader of the Neustadt an der Aisch district ) was born in Trommetsheim.
