The Störzelbach is a creek about nine kilometers long in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen , which flows into the middle Altmühl from the left and northeast in the district of Trommetsheim of the municipality of Alesheim .

course

The Störzelbach rises about one and a half kilometers north of the outskirts of the Ellingen parish village of Stopfenheim on the edge of the forest area Ossing at an altitude of over 470  m above sea level. NN . On the way south to Stopfenheim it first flows through a chain of ponds, then the large boiler pond on the northern edge of the village . There he takes the Schloßgartengraben from the left, at the lower end of the village then the Knöpfelbach approaching from Theilenhofen from the right. After a further southern run, it crosses over to the municipality of Alesheim and immediately crosses its small village Störzelbach . On first south-west, then west, it draws a wide arc around Alesheim itself, from which the Gaßwiesengraben runs south-west of the parish village . Continuing the direction of its inflow, it soon reaches the wide and sluggish course of the Störzelbachgraben , an alluvial ditch to the left of the Altmühl. Together with him, it flows into the Trommetsheimer residential area Fischerhaus from the left and finally northeast into the Altmühl .

Catchment area

The Störzelbach has an approximately crescent-shaped catchment area of about 21 km² with the hollow in the west, which extends from an over 500  m above sea level. Ridge reaching NN in the northwest between Theilenhofen and Rittern in an arc across the east to the southwest to the mouth. On its southeast side, the watershed runs over the isolated individual elevation of the Flüglinger Berg , which is up to 541.3  m above sea level. NN rises, everywhere else the terrain is below 500  m above sea level. NN .

Competitors on the other side of the watershed are the Walkerszeller Bach and the Vordere Troppelgraben in the northeast, the Hörleinsgraben and the Mittelbühlgraben in the east, and the Weimersheimer Bach in the southeast beyond the Flüglinger Berg ; these all drain into the Swabian Rezat and thus towards the Rhine. In the south, west and north-west, however, the competitors run to the Altmühl and thus towards the Danube. There are the Lüßgraben in the south, the Weihergraben , Weidachgraben and Wachsteiner Bach on the west side and the Dornhauser Mühlbach with its tributaries in the north-west.

The overwhelming majority is open land in which the fields dominate. Forest is only in the extreme north ( parish forest , Ossing and part of the Stopfenheimer woods ), on the slope of the Flüglinger Berg and to a lesser extent on the east side in Singetholz and Bergholz . Only the villages of Stopfenheim and Störzelbach are located on the run , on the edge of the catchment area each part of the villages Theilenhofen on the northern crescent tip, Alesheim on the southern hollow and Trommetsheim on the southern edge.
