Ponatshego Honorius Kefhaeng Kedikilwe (born August 4, 1938 in Sefhophe , Bechuanaland ) is a politician of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from Botswana , who was minister several times and vice-president from 2012 to 2014.

Life

Kedikilwe was appointed Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration in his cabinet by President Quett Masire in 1985 and held this post until 1989. After a cabinet reshuffle, he took over the post of Minister for Trade and Industry from 1989 to 1994 and was thereafter between 1994 and 1998 again Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration.

Masire's successor as President Festus Mogae appointed Kedikilwe as Minister of Finance in his government in 1998. In 1999 he took over the post of Minister of Education, which he gave up again a year later in 2000. Kedikilwe served for several years as chairman of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and lost this office to Ian Khama at the party congress on July 22, 2003 . In a battle vote, he defeated the previous party chairman Ponatshego Kedikilwe with 512 to 219 votes. Khama had been supported by President Mogae.

President Mogae appointed Kedikilwe minister for minerals, energy and water resources in his government in 2007. He kept this ministerial office after Ian Khama succeeded Mogae as President on April 1, 2008. On July 31, 2012, he finally succeeded Mompati Merafhe as Vice President of Botswana and thus Deputy to President Khama. He held the office of Vice President until November 12, 2014, when he was replaced by Mokgweetsi Masisi .
