Popa Taung Kalat

Popa Taung Kalat is a volcanic cone with a Nat temple in the Nyaung U (district) of the Mandalay region in Myanmar .

description

About 50 km southeast of the temple city of Bagan and not far from Mount Popa , with which it is often confused, stands the 737 m high volcanic cone with the Tuyin Taung Pagoda. In the pilgrimage village at the foot of the mountain is the shrine of the 37 canonical Nats ; With their attributes and their typical clothing, they stand in a row as life-size figures. The focus, however, is on Mae Wanna Thanegi, the sister of the Mon King Manuha , with her husband and their two sons.

From the village you can reach the residence of the Nats, the patron saint of Myanmar, on the volcano via 777 steps. A few small stupas and a memorial for the magician Po Min Gaung, who worked there, were erected there in the 20th century.
