Popular Mechanics is an American popular science magazine covering science and technology. It was first published on January 11, 1902 by Henry H. Windsor . It has belonged to the Hearst Corporation since 1958 . There are nine different international editions, including a Latin American version that has been published for decades and a more recent South African edition. From 1956 to 1962 there was a German edition.
Popular Mechanics regularly features automotive, home, outdoor, science, and technology articles. Late night talk show host and car fanatic Jay Leno is a regular contributor to Jay Leno's Garage.
Popular Mechanics' main competitors include Popular Science , Wired, and Men's Journal.
Popular Mechanics is a subsidiary of Hearst Corporation, which also has a stake in the History Channel .
