Porcine intestinal spirochaetosis

The Porcine intestinal spirochetosis ( English : Porcine Colonic Spirochaetosis (PCS) ) is a diarrheal disease in pigs caused by the bacterium Brachyspira pilosicoli is caused. It is a diarrhea similar to that of swine dysentery , but it is milder. In 4–20 week old pigs it usually occurs immediately after weaning. The diarrhea is slimy.

The deteriorated feed conversion and the delayed increase lead to economic damage. Little is known about the actual spread of porcine intestinal spirochaetosis. The importance of B. pilosicoli as a zoonotic pathogen is discussed.

It is combated with antibiotics using tiamulin , tylosin , valnemulin or lincomycin .
