The Porsche 953 was a heavily modified version of the Porsche 911 that was specially developed and built for use in the Paris-Dakar rally in 1984 . It was replaced by the Porsche 959 a year later .

Sometimes the 953 is also referred to as the 911 4 × 4 because it used the all-wheel drive system of the 959, which was not yet ready for series production , making the 953 the first 911 with all-wheel drive.

To meet the demands of the Paris-Dakar Rally , the 953 had a heavily modified chassis. It also had a 220 kW (330 PS), 6-cylinder engine. The 953 weighed 1,247 kg. A total of three Porsche 953s took part in the rally; one of them, driven by René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne, won the automobile classification.
