Port Based Network Access Control

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since 2001 there is the standard IEEE 802.1X , the Port Based Network Access Control retrofits for networks. These can be wireless ( WLANs ) or wired ( Ethernet ). The users are authenticated via the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP).

The authentication data is exchanged between the client and the wireless access point via an authentication protocol (e.g. Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP)). The data is not checked by the access point, but verified by a RADIUS server in the background.
