Portal Tomb by Ballybrack

The Portal Tomb of Ballybrack ( Irish An Baile Breac ) in the southeast of Dublin in Ireland is a well-preserved Portal Tomb . It is in the residential area; about 20.0 m from a road about one kilometer east of Dublin Bay or the Irish Sea . The facility, located between Cromlech Fields and the busy Shanganagh Road , is marked as " Dolmen " on the OS map . When the houses were built, a small excavation was carried out to determine the extent of the complex. But no artifacts were uncovered.

Megalithic systems on the British Isles are called Portal Tombs , in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone. The 2.2 m long, 2.05 m wide and 1.2 m thick quartz capstone weighs around 40 tons and has an almost straight underside. The portal stones are 1.55 m and 1.4 m high. There is no door stone and no end stone. The access to the chamber is in the east.

Nearby is the Ballybrack Passage Tomb . In County Kerry lies Steinkiste of Ballybrack.
