The Portal de Graells (also Portal Major de Graells or Portal de Santa Maria ) is a city ​​gate in Cardona , a Spanish city ​​in Catalonia that was built in the 14th century. The city gate has been a protected architectural monument since 1988 .

history

Under Ramon Folc VI. de Cardona, the walls of Cardona Castle and the city were reinforced at the end of the 14th century . The work was completed in 1420. Four main gates lead into the city, the streets from Solsona , Sant Llorenç de Morunys and La Seu d'Urgell lead to the Puerta de Graells .

The Puerta de Graells, first mentioned in writing in 1421, is the only one of the main gates to have two flanking towers, which are built on a rectangular floor plan. There is an arched passage between the two towers.

In 1984 the Puerta de Graells was restored under the direction of the Generalitat de Catalunya . Museum rooms were set up in a tower.
