Portico Library (2011)

The Portico Library is a historic library in Manchester in the north west of England .

The library building was built in the Greek Revival style between 1802 and 1806 by the English architect and engineer Thomas Harrison . The interior design was carried out by John Soane . In 1920 the upper gallery was expanded with a reading room.

The building has been a listed building since February 25, 1952.

Today, in addition to the library on the upper floor, the building also houses an exhibition room and a pub. This pub, called "The Bank - Nicholson's Pubs", operates in the premises of a former bank branch of the Bank of Athens on the ground floor.
