The Portland Creek is a tributary of the St. Lawrence Gulf on the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador belonging island Newfoundland .

River course

The 2 kilometer long Portland Creek runs on the west coast of the Great Northern Peninsula and forms the drain of Portland Creek Pond to the nearby sea. Route 430 crosses the river 400 m above the estuary . The parish of Daniel's Harbor is 4 miles north of the estuary . Portland Creek (unincorporated place) is located on the coast 2 km south of the estuary . The catchment area of Portland Creek covers 960 km². The mean discharge is 4.7 m³ / s.

Wildlife

The following fish species are found in the Portland Creek river system: Atlantic salmon , brook trout , arctic smelt , American eel, and three-spined and nine-spined sticklebacks . The salmon population in Portland Creek is considered "not at risk". Typical aquatic inhabitants in the area are the American mink , North American river otter , Canadian beaver, and the muskrat .
