The Porvoo Butchers are a Finnish American football club based in Porvoo .

history

The Butchers were founded in 1986. In their first season in 1987, they were champions of Division II and were promoted to Division I. There, too, they were immediately successful and after winning promotion relegation they reached the Vaahteraliiga . There they had to pay hardship in the first season and were immediately relegated with just one win. But after the renewed Division I championship in 1990 they immediately returned to the Vaahteraliiga, where they stayed in the episode. In 1995 they reached third place in the championship, in 1997 they became Finnish runner-up. After the 1999 season, they had to withdraw from the game operation for economic reasons. In 2001 they resumed the game operations in Division I and won the league and rose for the third time in their history to the Vaahteraliiga. There they reached third place in 2003 and in 2005 they won their first Finnish championship. They were able to repeat this success in the following five years and, like only the Helsinki Roosters before , they won the Finnish championship six times in a row.

In the European Football League , the Butchers appeared for the first time in 2007 , but failed in the qualifying round at the Norwegian representative Eidsvoll 1814s . In 2009 the Butchers signed up for the EFL again, their opponents in the qualifying round were again oaths, as was the Swedish team Stockholm Mean Machines . They reached the semi-finals undefeated, where they failed at the Swarco Raiders Tirol with 31:13.

By reaching the semi-finals in 2009, Porvoo was already placed in the quarter-finals of the EFL 2010 , where they meet the Berlin Eagles .
