Linz beer was brewed in the Poschacher brewery from 1836 to 1981 .

history

The brewery was founded in 1836 at this location in today's Poschacherstraße in Linz by Franz Lehner, economy owner and last master brewer of the Lustenfelden brewery, as a small brewery. A little later he sold it to the wholesale merchant Matthias Radler, and in 1854 Josef Poschacher finally acquired this brewery. He had it expanded by master builder Johann Rueff and also took over the breweries in Ebelsberg and Traun . Around 1900 the annual beer output was around 100,000 hl.

In 1904, due to further expansion, the lawyer Carl Beurle established a new stock company. When brewing barley was confiscated during the First World War, the company produced soda water, cider, fruit juices and jams instead of beer. After the merger in Braubank AG in 1921 or the merger to Brau AG in 1925, further new buildings were built. Brewing was soon resumed after damage from bomb hits in World War II.

In 1981 the company stopped brewing in Linz and the popular Linzer Bier brand disappeared . In 1987 the brewhouse was demolished and an office building was erected as the management of the Brau Union , which still houses it today.

Revival of the Linzer Bier brand

The Brau Union's Linzer-Bier-Wirte initiative started in 2017 , with Linz beer being served in eleven inns in Linz . Since 2019, a Linz beer has also been brewed for retail , which is produced in the Zipf brewery .
