Positive Alternatives to Homosexuality

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Positive Alternatives to Homosexuality (PATH) is an amalgamation of predominantly US-American groups who have set themselves the goal of offering their concept of chastity as an alternative to a " homosexual lifestyle " , in which sexual activity takes place within a monogamous, same-sex partnership is still considered unchaste. The objective of the group is criticized by specialists and professional associations.

Members

In July 2003, various groups and organizations, mostly from Christian , but also from Jewish and non-religious backgrounds , joined forces in PATH . The members include or were:

aims

The stated goals of all PATH member organizations are that people can decide for themselves about their sexual behavior and that such decisions are met with respect and tolerance.

Some PATH member organizations also advocate changing sexual orientation through religious group work or reparative therapies. Others consider the possibility of change unlikely and instead want to support their members on the path to a sexually abstinent life. Those who do not want change and want to live a homosexual lifestyle do not belong to the target audience of the organizations.

Typical public relations work by PATH demands understanding and acceptance for those previous gays and lesbians who demonstrate willingness to change, and at the same time promotes the change offers from their member organizations.

criticism

The effectiveness of reparative therapies advertised by PATH and its member organizations is denied by the leading international psychological associations. In addition, they point out the potential harm such treatments may have on mental health.

Organizations of the lesbian and gay movement regularly criticize PATH and its member organizations.
