The former post office

The Neresheim post office in the Baden-Württemberg Ostalb district was built in 1911 as part of the establishment of a network of imperial post offices under the influence of the Heimatschutz architecture. It is right next to the former tithe barn of Neresheim Abbey . The building was completely renovated and rebuilt from November 1977 to October 1978 and has been a listed building since April 1979 .

In the course of the renovation in 1978, the heating was switched from coke to oil. Another renovation of the building took place in the mid-1990s when the roof was re-covered. The entrance portal for customer traffic attached to the main building has not been used since the post office was closed in November 2003. The rear area was previously closed. Today the house houses two apartments as well as a delivery point for Deutsche Post AG. The former Neresheim post office has been in private hands since September 2011 .

Characteristic are the crooked hip roof and the roof turret made of copper sheet on the hip , in which the local telephone lines converged in earlier times. Also striking is the turret built on the southeast side with elements of Art Nouveau, in which the staircase is located. The building also shows elements of reform architecture , such as the visible rusticated masonry made of shell limestone on the street front and the entrance area. The total height of the building is around 21 meters, with the room heights decreasing from 4.2 meters on the ground floor to 3.0 meters on the second floor. The building has a total of 84 windows. The very steep, old German roof has six dormers on the southeast side and five on the northwest side. It is covered with plain tiles.

The post office, together with the former Neresheim station of the Härtsfeldbahn from the turn of the century, which now houses a railway museum as well as a gastronomic use, and the building of the former Neresheim builder Schmied (built in 1923), form a historical ensemble on the south-eastern exit of Neresheim .
