Post office Ronsdorf
The Ronsdorf Post Office is a historic building in the center of Ronsdorf , today a district of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia / Germany . It is located at Lüttringhauser Straße 16-18 in the residential area of Ronsdorf-Mitte / Nord .
history
In 1814 a mail forwarding company was opened in Ronsdorf. From 1854 to 1879 this was located in the "Wolf Economy" on the market square. On August 16, 1893, today's building was opened as the "Imperial Post Office Ronsdorf" in Lüttringhauser Strasse .
On the night of May 29-30, 1943, Ronsdorf was badly hit by an Allied air raid on Wuppertal . The townscape in the center of Ronsdorf was characterized by uniform two- to three-story slid-up residential buildings, which were largely destroyed in this air raid. From the preserved substance, in addition to the post office, the Rector's School , the Bandweaver School , the Luther Church and the Reformed Church are worth mentioning.
building
The post office was built in the Wilhelminian style ( neo-baroque ). It is a two-and-a-half-story building, the main facades of which are made of red brick . Most of the building has been preserved in its original form; only the upper part of the original tower above the entrance on the northeast corner was removed in 1934. The stepped gable , which rises across the eaves and thus towards Lüttringhauser Straße, is characteristic. The post office has been a listed building since May 11, 1988 .
use
A branch of Deutsche Post AG was operated in the building until November 2, 2010 ; Since November 3, 2010 the postal business has been continued by a postal agency in the immediate vicinity. After that, the former post office was sold to an international real estate management company . While large parts of the building were meanwhile unused, there was still a small letter sorting system on the first floor until 2012 . After it was outsourced, the building was sold to an investor in August 2012, who gutted it and converted it into an office building with an attic apartment, while preserving the listed building.
