The Bavarian Posti Bay 61 (according to DR category conventions ) were two-axle mail cars which belonged to the first generation of pure mail cars from the former BOB . They were listed in the car register from 1876 under sheet no. 55 led.

history

Between 1861 and 1873 a total of 38 wagons of the type M (stands for Malle = post office) or Mbr (braked post wagon ) in different designs were procured from the BOB . With the takeover of BOB by KBSts.B on November 1, 1875, all cars in their fleet were classified as class BP . The Bavarian administration soon converted twelve cars into passenger cars with a post compartment (PostC Bay 61) and a further nine cars into those with a luggage compartment (PostP Bay 61) . The remaining eighteen cars received intercommunication (transition options) and were assigned to the class Posti Bay 61 .

procurement

On January 14, 1861, a contract was signed with the Klett company for the delivery of a total of 18 cars. The wagons classified with the BOB under the numbers M 1 - M 6 were without brakes. The other twelve cars - Mbr 7 - Mbr 18, delivered in the years 1861–1862 - had a brakeman's cab of the BOB design , which was integrated in the car body but was also accessible from the outside.

All other mail cars - Mbr 19 - Mbr 38 - were delivered by Rathgeber in 1867 and 1873. They had slightly different dimensions and all had a raised brakeman's position in the BOB design

Whereabouts

In the wagon register from 1913, only 13 wagons were still in inventory as post wagons (in the WV from 1913 see sheet numbers 188 and 189). Soon after the takeover, 12 wagons were converted into combined third -class passenger wagons with a post compartment ( type PostC Bay 61 , see sheet 208), the remaining wagons were converted into baggage cars with a post compartment ( type PostP Bay 61 , see sheet 209).

Constructive features

Underframe

The frame of the car still had a mixed construction of wood and iron. The outer side rails were made of iron and had a double-T shape. The remaining cross members and the buffer beams were made of wood. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings with safety hooks according to VDEV , the drawbar was spring-loaded throughout. As a shock device, the wagons had rod buffers in the design for the BOB , the buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm.

drive

The wagons had riveted half-timbered axle brackets made of flat iron of the short, straight design. The axles were stored in split sliding axle bearings. The wheels had shape 24 spoked wheel bodies and a wheel diameter of 1,027 mm. The suspension consisted of a nine-layer spring of 1,750 mm with a cross-section of 93 x 13 mm, which were fastened to the spring brackets with simple straps.

The hand brakes on the one-sided transition platform acted on all wheels on both sides. The car had the old design of the Bavarian brake linkage with a central lever.

Car body

The car body framework consisted of a wooden frame work. It was clad with sheet metal on the outside and wood on the inside. The side walls were slightly indented on the underside. The car had a flat arched roof, which protruded over the side walls. All wagons all had continuous side walkways and handrails.

The interior was divided into two roughly equal halves by a partition. The packing room was on the side of the transition platform or the brakeman's position, and the letter sorting room on the opposite side. Since the cars were used on secondary railways, they had a door for "intercommunication" on the side of the letter sorting room in the middle of the front wall. This was dismantled around 1890 for cars 15 140 and 15 142 to 15 145 and the transition bridge was removed. At this time, the partition walls were also removed from these cars.

The wagons had a stove for heating. As secondary rail cars, they were all equipped with a line for steam heating .

The lighting was carried out by oil lamps, some of the cars by gas. The storage container for the illuminating gas hung on the frame in the longitudinal direction of the car.
