Postcode (Turkey)

The Turkish postcodes (Turkish: Posta kodu ) have five digits and are based on the French system .

The first two digits correspond to the number of the province and thus also the vehicle registration number . They are identical to the numbers from the international code ISO 3166-2: TR . For example, the 25 stands for Erzurum , etc. The following three digits denote the exact place in the province and the district or urban area in large cities.

The postcodes were introduced in Turkey before or with the year 1977. As recently as 2002, Swiss Post complained that it was being used far too little for addressing, which hindered automatic shipment processing.
