A symbolic pot

In the card game poker , the term pot [pɒt] , in English pot, pot or stick, denotes the sum of all deposited chips or the sum of all deposited cash .

If a player manages to push all opposing players out of the round ( bluff ) or has the best hand after the river , he usually wins the entire pot.

Special mathematical calculations, so-called pot odds , can be used to determine whether a stake is still worthwhile in a certain game situation in order to secure a chance at the pot .

If two players hold the same hand, a split pot occurs .

When a poker player can no longer afford a bet, a side pot is opened.
