Potsdam Protocol for Book Club Editions

With reference to the book retail trade, the Potsdam Protocol is a statutory provision for book club editions (e.g. Club Bertelsmann ).

  • Club expenses may not be shown in the sales catalog before 4 months have elapsed . The first day of sale in the range applies to the calculation. This also applies to "socket books" (books accompanying television programs). Exceptions: Christmas catalog - the deadline can be shortened to 3 months (the deadline is August 15). Book titles that relate to current events (e.g. the election of the Pope) or are of other short-lived duration can appear with a short time lag or at the same time as the original.

Price differences of club expenses:

  • 4 months later = 15%,
  • 5 "= 16%,
  • 6 "= 20%,
  • thereafter up to 40%,
  • Parallel spending = 15%.
