The British village of Poundbury near Dorchester in the county of Dorset is a model town for the implementation of the principles of sustainable development and the design principles set out by the British heir to the throne Prince Charles in his book A Vision Of Britain . Prince Charles played a key role in the conception and implementation, together with the Luxembourg city planner and architectural theorist Léon Krier . The settlement was built on leasehold land from the Duchy of Cornwall .

The overall architectural concept is based on a rejection of the design principles of the modern age and is instead based on classicist and traditional architecture. It is part of the concept to mix social housing and private houses in a small-town structure. Poundbury is an example of the New Urbanism movement that was founded in the 1980s as a countermovement against the ever-increasing urban sprawl .
