PowerJet is a jet engine manufacturer that was jointly founded by Snecma and NPO-Saturn . It consists of a French branch of PowerJet SA and a Russian branch, Powerjet ZAO . The company is based in Paris . The CEO is Michel Déchelotte (* 1946). The goal is to manufacture the PowerJet SaM146 engine for the passenger aircraft Suchoi Superjet 100 . The company was founded on July 21, 2004 for this purpose. It is the basis of the cooperation agreement not to offer any engines with a thrust over 82.3 kN in order not to compete with the CFM56 .

The engine core with the high-pressure part and the FADEC are supplied by Snecma . NPO-Saturn builds the low-pressure part including a fan as well as control and auxiliary units. The final assembly should take place at NPO-Saturn. A test stand was built for test runs of the new engine, on which all test runs can be carried out.

The LII is converting an Ilyushin Il-76 for flight tests . One of the four D30-KP-2 engines is replaced by a SaM146. Two test series are to be flown, one in Schukowski and one in Istres , where the Snecma flight test center is located.

The fan engine is to be offered in two performance levels, which differ only in the control software. The first pre-series samples should be ready in summer 2006.
