Power Station of Art (PSA) / 上海 当代 艺术 博物馆, is a museum for contemporary and contemporary art in Shanghai , People's Republic of China .

Origin and focus

The museum is located in Huangpu District , on the site of Expo 2010 . It opened in autumn 2012 with an exhibition of contemporary art from the Center Pompidou gallery in Paris entitled Portrait of the Times. The exhibition area amounts to 10,000 m² and three floors. Changing temporary exhibitions of Chinese and Western art are shown in the museum. The museum is China's first state museum for contemporary art.

architecture

The museum is set up in a former thermal power station. The power station was built in 1897 and used as a Nanshi power station. The 165 meter high chimney of the former power plant has been preserved.

The museum is run by is Li Xu. The deputy director is Gong Yan, who was the editor-in-chief of the Chinese magazine Art World.

The museum cooperates with partners such as the Center Pompidou in Paris or the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh .

The museum can be reached with lines 4 and 8 of the Shanghai Metro (Station South Xizang Rd.).
