The Powerchip Technology Corporation is a Taiwanese company of the semiconductor industry , the Storage Products manufactures and Foundry Services (contract manufacturing) of integrated circuits offering.
Powerchip was founded in December 1994 at Hsinchu Science Park and has been listed on the Taiwan GreTai Securities Market - an over-the-counter stock trading platform - since 1998 . Powerchip developed DDR SDRAM storage units and became the first public company in Taiwan to be offered on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. As of December 2009, Powerchip had a total of 4,200 employees, capital of NTD 87.8 billion and annual sales of NTD 31.1 billion.
In 2009, Powerchip single-handedly designed and manufactured 4GB of flash memory in Taiwan.
Powerchip cooperates with Japan's Elpida in the research and development, production and marketing of DRAM products.
After a crisis in the DRAM market around 2012, Powerchip turned more to the foundry business.
In 2018, Powerchip announced plans to build two new factories for 12-inch wafers in Taiwan.
